Need for a Diploma on Science and Spirituality
Modern education aims to enhance the rationality perspectives of an individual. Thereafter, application of rationality is sought in personal, professional and social spheres of life. While emphasis is on objective approaches, subjective engagements exist in modern educational frameworks. In several subjects such as music, arts, design etc., the subjective proficiencies or skill set of an individual are targeted. In technical curricula. Higher academic degrees involving a Dissertation effectively train a scholar to realize the greater role of subjective domains of knowledge and their relevance for human excellence and distinction in the chosen field of research or study.
The continued educational emphasis on rationality in the modern educational frameworks is detrimental to cultivate subjective skill sets. The Diploma on Science and Spirituality is a carefully designed flagship program of the Bhaktivedanta Institute. The institute labored for two decades to envision the academic program for the greater benefit of the mankind to (a) foster greater harmony between alternate thought processes and paradigms and (b) facilitate greater synchronization of the most innate views of the reality including those of the Vedanta with those understood and realized through the mediums of western science and pure philosophy and (c) facilitate a framework that enables easy harmonization of science with spirituality and spirituality with science. Thereby, the major goal of the Diploma is to foster deeper thinking and creativity based on broader worldview. The long term goal of the Diploma Course is upon the distinction and excellence of human life in terms of the ultimate meaning and purpose of life, cosmos and nature. Thereby, intellectual humility, sublime peace and realization are the intended dividends of the course through which noble personalities with great character can be evolved to serve as role model citizens in the society.
In terms of its competence, the Diploma Course on Science and Spirituality is Unique in the sense that it amalgamates Science, Philosophy, Spirituality (based on World Religions) and thereby fosters the synthesis of alternate paradigms for a harmonious existence and co-existence. Graduates of the Diploma are anticipated to become noble personalities with auspicious qualities such as intellectual humility, broader thought process and world view. and greater reasoning and logic. They will be equipped with a knowledge paradigm that has the ability to resolve potential conflicts and issues in personal, professional and social spheres of life. An epistemological and ontological analysis of Vedanta and Science will remain the central pedagogy of the taught content.
Summary of the Diploma Course
The Diploma Course content is organized into two sections namely (a) Lectures and (b) Tutorials. The vast subject of science-spirituality has been arranged first in the form of Lectures to enable the mastering of the subject in the specific fields of Science, Spirituality, Synthesis of Science-Spirituality, Cosmology, Life’s Origin and Evolution and Consciousness. Thereafter, tutorials have been arranged in several fields of interest including God, Management, Research, Health and Philosophy. These tutorials aim to enhance the spiritual and emotional quotients of the delegate through subjective emphasis. Finally, the Dissertation involves the application of Dr. T. D. Singh’s model of science-spirituality synthesis in the interested field of study by the delegate.
The evaluation of the Diploma course is as follows. All Lecture modules will be evaluated first in terms of MCQ based online forms. Thereafter, tutorials will be evaluated in terms of subjective Short Answer Questions. Also, Viva based evaluation of the candidate’s proficiency will be addressed in a Mid and End Sem Exam. Finally, Dissertation evaluation is conducted as a VIva-voce examination to ensure that the Delegate mastered and applied Science-Spirituality Synthesis in the field of his/her interest.
After completing the Diploma Course, a graduate will have unique abilities to think and apply the synthesis paradigm in all walks of life and thereby drive inner transformation. Further, an interested graduate will be able to conduct high end research and academics in the field of science-spirituality.
Important Note
The Academic Curriculum of the Diploma Course on Science-Spirituality will be demanding significant engagement of the Delegate. Since the subject matter of science-spirituality is highly philosophical and thought provoking, it needs considerable engagement to master the subject and apply. In terms of the taught content, it is equivalent to a Post Graduate Diploma in Science and Philosophy being taught in a prestigious International University. Henceforth, only those who wish to study the course very seriously must register otherwise, they are advised to first register and complete other Certificate Courses and thereafter register for the Diploma Course to complete it with ease and confidence.
Two important Certificate Courses that can be registered prior to the Diploma course are (a) Foundations of Science and Spirituality and (b) Nature of Reality. While it is not mandatory to register for these courses, its advisable for those who wish to register for the Diploma as the taught content of the Diploma is relatively superior to that taught in these Certificate Courses. Hence, only those who are very confident of their abilities shall register for the Course.
